On the trail, somewhere
Welcome to Mondohiking
Why we're starting this - what kind of stories we'll tell, what kind of gear we'll write about, and who it's for.
By Mondohiking · May 3, 2026
There are already a hundred good hiking sites on the internet. Some are obsessive about gear grams. Some are obsessive about Strava times. Some are brand-owned and tell you, with a straight face, that you absolutely need a seventh waterproof shell.
This isn’t one of those.
Mondohiking is for the people who plan a trip around what the weather will do, not what the algorithm rewards. Who pack one less bar and one more pair of dry socks. Who take the kid, or the dog, or both, and end up walking shorter distances at slower paces - and have the better day for it.
What we’ll publish
Three things, all in the open:
-
Trail guides - honest write-ups of routes we’ve actually walked. Distance, elevation, season, what the path is really like, and whether it works with kids or dogs. No paid placements.
-
Trip reports - longer, slower stories. The reason you wanted to be outside in the first place. Some of these will be in countries you’ve heard of, some won’t.
-
Gear - only what we’ve used long enough to break, lose, or come to trust. A small, opinionated shop will follow once we have things worth selling and not before.
Who it’s for
If you’re the friend in the group who reads the weather forecast three days in advance and double-checks the trail conditions on the morning of - this is for you.
If you’re new to hiking and you’ve been told it has to be a sufferfest at altitude to count - this is also for you, and it doesn’t.
We’re packing the bags. First proper guides land soon.
